Connecting Google Calendar — optional

Booking works fully without Google Calendar — it isn't a prerequisite. Connecting one adds exactly one thing, and it's worth knowing precisely what that is.

Booking already works

Talkybara keeps its own calendar. Your agent checks real availability against it and books real appointments into it, with no Google connection involved. That calendar is the authoritative one — it's what actually prevents two callers being booked into the same slot.

So if you'd rather not connect anything, nothing is broken and nothing is missing from the booking flow itself.

The one thing connecting adds

Visibility of events you create directly in Google.

Without a connection, Talkybara knows about bookings made through your agent or this dashboard — and nothing else. If you block out Thursday afternoon in Google for something unrelated, your agent doesn't know, and will happily offer Thursday afternoon to a caller.

With a connection, your agent also checks Google's busy times and merges them in, so your own Google entries protect your availability too.

If you already live in Google Calendar, connect it

This is the deciding question, not a feature comparison. If your real schedule is kept in Google, an unconnected Talkybara is working from half a picture. If your schedule really does live in Talkybara, connecting adds little.

What also happens once connected

Every appointment booked through Talkybara is mirrored out to your Google Calendar, so it appears alongside everything else. Reschedules and cancellations update the same Google event rather than creating duplicates.

The mirror is best-effort and deliberately non-blocking. If Google is unreachable at the moment a booking is made, the booking still succeeds in Talkybara — it's never rolled back or failed because a calendar entry couldn't be written.

It's one-way

Bookings flow out to Google. Changes you make in Google to a mirrored event don't flow back — moving a Talkybara appointment inside Google Calendar won't move it in Talkybara, and the two will disagree.

Reschedule and cancel from the Appointments page instead, and Google is updated for you. Full two-way sync isn't built.

Connecting

AI Agent → Booking — the Google Calendar Integration card. Click Connect Google Calendar and sign in with your Google account. Nothing on your calendar is touched until you approve access on Google's own screen.

Set your timezone first

If you connect without a timezone set in Account Settings → Business, appointments fall back to your Google account's timezone — which may not be your business's, and will put real bookings at the wrong actual time. The card warns you if it's missing; fix it before connecting.

Disconnecting

Same card, any time. Booking carries straight on using Talkybara's own calendar. Your existing appointments stay exactly where they are, and events already mirrored into Google stay in Google — disconnecting doesn't delete anything on either side. What stops is the two-way visibility: new bookings are no longer mirrored out, and your own Google events no longer block availability.

If your connection stops working — access revoked, or a Google password change — you'll see a notice on the Appointments page saying calendar data on screen may be incomplete. Reconnect from the same card.
