Services & durations

Services tell your agent what you actually book and how long each thing takes. Without them, every appointment is a 30-minute guess.

Where they live

AI Agent → Booking, in the Services section below the booking rules. Available on every plan.

The list has a search box, a status filter, and a reorder control. Each row is added or edited in place and saves immediately — there's no separate Save button for this section.

What a service is made of

  • Name — what you'd call it out loud. "Oil change", "Brake inspection", "Initial consultation".
  • Description — optional, but it's what helps your agent tell two similar-sounding services apart.
  • Duration — how long the appointment itself takes.
  • Buffer time — extra time blocked after the appointment. Cleanup, notes, getting to the next job.
  • Active toggle — turn a service off without deleting it. Seasonal work, or something you've paused.

How your agent uses them

Your agent is given your real, active services and nothing else. It matches what the caller describes to one of them — "my oil light's on" to "Oil change" — and that matching is genuinely judgement, which is what it's good at.

Once matched, the duration is looked up, not decided. Your agent never estimates how long something takes; it reads the number you set. A 90-minute service books 90 minutes every time, regardless of how the conversation went.

And it cannot invent a service you don't offer. If a caller asks for something that's not on your list, your agent has no way to book it — it will say so and offer something else, such as a callback.

Buffer really blocks the calendar

Buffer isn't a note to yourself. A 60-minute service with a 15-minute buffer booked at 10:00 blocks your calendar until 11:15, and the next offered slot starts after that.

If you have no services at all

Booking still works. Your agent falls back to a 30-minute default and books without a named service. That's fine for a business where every appointment really is the same length, and fine as a starting point — but it means a 15-minute question and a two-hour job block the same amount of your day.

Your dashboard notices too: with no services defined, the fourth stat card shows callback volume rather than appointments booked, on the assumption you're probably not taking bookings seriously yet.

Deliberately not offered: a catch-all service

There's no "Other / custom" service with a variable length. Every service you define has one fixed duration, because a variable-length appointment would put your agent back in the business of guessing how long your work takes — and getting that wrong quietly wrecks the rest of the day's availability.

If you genuinely have jobs of unpredictable length, the usual answer is a short fixed-length "assessment" service, after which you book the real work yourself.

Keeping them honest

Durations drift. If you're regularly running over, the service is too short and your agent is packing your day tighter than reality allows. If you're regularly finishing early, you're turning away bookings you could have taken. Worth a review every few months.

Availability is then filtered further by your business hours, availability rules and blackout periods.
